  • Jordi Alastruey gave 4 hours of lectures on Modelling Arterial Blood Flow in the Cardiovascular System at Northeastern University, China, in December 2020, as part of the "boundless classroom" programme. Jordi was invited as an international expert on the topic.

  • The group attended the ARTERY20 virtual conference in October 2020. Weiwei Jin gave an oral presentation on pulse wave velocity estimation using machine learning, and Tianqi Wang presented his computational study on the effect of abdominal aortic aneurysm on pulse wave morphology.

  • Jordi Alastruey gave an online seminar at the Institute of Personalized Medicine, Sechenov University in September 2020. His presentation was titled Arterial Pulse Wave Signals – Modelling and Clinical Value.

  • Weiwei Jin and Tianqi Wang participated in the Virtual Physiological Human 2020 (VPH2020) conference held online in August 2020. Weiwei presented her work on assessing the ability of 1-D modelling to accurately simulate pulse wave propagation across stenoses and aneurysms. Tianqi presented his recent computational study on portal venous hemodynamic changes after splenectomy in patients with portal hypertension. Abstracts of both studies can be found here.

  • Jorge Aramburu gave an oral presentation titled Identifying parameters in 1-D/0-D modelling of haemodynamics in the Fontan circulation at the online TOFMOD workshop on congenital heart diseases – a satellite event of the VPH2020 conference organised by INRIA and UT Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, in August 2020.

  • Congratulatins to Samuel Vennin on being awarded a Royal Academy of Engineering Sainsbury Management Fellowship to undertake a full-time MBA course at London Business School in August 2020.

  • Jordi Alastruey gave a webinar at the University of Zaragoza in April 2020. His presentation was entitled Arterial Blood Flow and Pulse Wave Signals – Modelling and Clinical Applications.

  • Peter Charlton and Jordi Alastruey participated in the First Working Group Meeting of the COST Action VascAgeNet held at Paris Cardiovascular Research Center (PARCC) in February 2020. The three-day meeting provided an excellent opportunity for interdisciplinary and intersectional discussions, bringing together industry, clinical expertise, basic research, and engineering to push the concept of vascular ageing.
